In the district of Bodrum in Muğla, V.A., who works as a construction worker, has been arrested for allegedly "propagandizing for the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party)" through his social media posts.
Anti-Terror Department teams of the Bodrum District Security Directorate detained V.A. on the ground that "he had propagandized for a terrorist organization."
As reported by Bodrum News, V.A. was referred to the courthouse today (May 15) and sent to Muğla Closed Prison after he was arrested.
Soylu previously announced that "social media would be under scrutiny"
The Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu made a statement on May 11 and said that in the period leading up to the Presidential and Parliamentary elections on June 24, social media would be under scrutiny. Soylu stated,
"Our related units will be on duty with the aim of ensuring security in the digital media, detecting especially the cases of propagandizing for a terrorist organization or engaging in other types of provocations on social media and tracking the cyber crimes directed at preventing digital election works."
The Ministry of Interior had announced that 710 social media accounts were examined and legal action has been taken against 208 people from April 16 to April 23.
The Ministry announced on February 26 that 845 people who criticized the Afrin operation on social media and participated in critical activities had been taken into custody. (AS/SD)
