Diyarbakır Governorship has announced that curfew has been declared due to an operation to be launched in 17 villages and hamlets in Lice and Kulp districts in province of Diyarbakır.
According to Governorship’s official statement released on its website, the curfew began at 8 a.m. today (January 9). It is unknown when the curfew will end.
The areas where curfew was declared in Lice are: Hamlets of Yalımlı, Akçabudak, Ulucak, Kılıçlı, Yorulmaz, Güldiken, Baharlar, Üçdamlar, Yaprakköy, Yünlüce köyleri ile Keşkuvari, Çiftlik, Leyhosor, Mahmutlu, Tahtakülek, Ballıca, Mahmudan, Yeniyazı, Hij, Gözeli, Dergan, Alıçlıyayla, Buban, Kaynaktaşı, Dokuzkat, Aliyan, Abdurrahmanağa, Aşağıhodik, Konuklu, Perpank, Yeşilburç, Kilimli, Gelberi, Bilgin, Hegogözer, Koçmarin, Mehmedil, Sağlık, Gönen, Hamzabey, Sıkas, Guçik, Eskiköy, Semezi, Yaka, Karaç, Kayadibi, Baverda and Kumumirza.
The areas where curfew was declared in Kulp are: Hamlets of Ağıllı, Akdoruk, Ağaçlı, Aşağıelmalı, Çağlayan, Kaynakköy, Karpuzlu köyleri ile Ağıllı, Derecik, Harabe, Güldiken, Dirlik, Kefan, Yukarıelmalı, Deveboynu, Astal, Işıklar, Gümüşsuyu, Soğanlı and Çotuk.
The governorship in its statement said that the curfew was declared on the ground that “operations will be launched to neutralize Separatist Terrorist Organization members and co-conspirators, damage their shelters, storage areas and anti-aircraft fronts, and seize their equipment”.
According to the Turkish Statistical İnstitute, in 2014 Diyarbakır was Turkey’s 12th most populated city, with a population of 1,635,048. The population of the city center is 834,854.
Diyarbakır’s (Amed’s) city center has about 9000 years of recorded history. The Diyarbakır Castle and Gardens was named a Global Heritage site by UNESCO in 2015. Dicle University was opened in 1978.
