The Governorship of Diyarbakır has announced that a curfew has been declared in nine villages and hamlets in the districts of Hani and Lice in Turkey's southeastern province of Diyarbakır on the ground that an operation will be launched in the region.
The indefinite curfew was declared at 11.35 p.m. yesterday (August 2).
The justification for the curfew was announced as "ensuring people's property and life safety and protecting civilians from being harmed" as per the Law no. 5442 for Provincial Administration.
According to the written statement published on the official website of the Governorship, the curfew will be in force as of its date of announcement in the following villages and hamlets:
"In the district of Lice, the villages of Duruköy and Darlan and the hamlets of Dahlık, Alikahya, Hacımusabey and Kutlamış. In the district of Hani, the villages of Serenköy and Uzunköy and the hamlet of Gürbulak."
According to the Turkish Statistical İnstitute, in 2014 Diyarbakır was Turkey’s 12th most populated city, with a population of 1,635,048. The population of the city center is 834,854.
Diyarbakır’s (Amed’s) city center has about 9000 years of recorded history. The Diyarbakır Castle and Gardens was named a Global Heritage site by UNESCO in 2015. Dicle University was opened in 1978.
