How Many US Troops are in Iskenderun?

CHP lawmaker Yazar asked the parliament: Who has the control over the Iskenderun port? Did you order the Americans to send out their military ammunitions after the parliament rejected the second motion?

Abdulaziz Yazar, a Republican People's Party (CHP) lawmaker from Hatay, presented the Turkish Grand National Assembly with two separate queries.

These queries were about the allegations that United States (U.S.) troops in Turkey received shots against smallpox, and the position of the U.S. troops at the Iskenderun port.

Measures against biological weapons

Yazar asked Health Minister Prof. Dr. Recep Akdag about the allegations that the U.S. soldiers at the Iskenderun port and the Incirlik air base received shots against smallpox. With these motions, Yazar also demanded information about "measures against the use of biological weapons in case of a possible war in Iraq."

In the second query, the CHP lawmaker asked if the "The U.S. troops had been ordered to send their weapons, vehicles and equipment out of Turkey" after the parliament rejected allowing U.S. troops in the country. Yazar demanded a written response to his queries.

Yazar also demanded to know the number of U.S. troops and technical personnel at the Iskenderun port, and asked who had the authority and control over the port.

Yazar also asked if the military vehicles and ammunitions in Turkey, which obviously would not be used for the modernization of bases and ports, had a constitutional basis.

"Have the Americans been ordered to send such weapons, vehicles and equipment out of Turkey after the parliament rejected to allow U.S. troops to station in the country?" asked Yazar in the query. (BB)
