Prisoners arrested or convicted of Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK) trials have ended their 64-day hunger strike upon call by the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK).
Prisoners end hunger strike upon call by KCK
According to the report by dihaber (Dicle News Agency), Deniz Kaya making a statement on the situation of prisoners said:
"We end our indefinite, non-alternate hunger strike on its 64th day in all prisons including Şakran, Sincan, Bolu, Trabzon and Tarsus prisons on call by our KCK Presidency".
KCK Executive Council Presidency had made a written statement yesterday (April 18) calling on to the prisoners to end their hunger strike and said:
"With the resistance of the prisoners, and support by the people and democracy forces, the reasons for the revolutionary prisoners' struggle meaning the isolation in İmralı, oppressions in prison, political genocidal attacks against democratic politics and fascist attacks against the people have been brought to agenda to the necessary extent and have reached their purpose.
What were the demands of the strikers?
The 148 prisoners in 17 different prisons arrested or convicted of PKK and PJAK trials demanded
"The aggravated isolation conditions of the PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in prison be lifted".
"The destruction and the prohibitions in Kurdish provinces be put an end to".
"Rights violations in prison be ended" (AS/DG)
