Republican People’s Party (CHP) Balıkesir MP Namık Havutça has given details on “threat” allegation by Balıkesir Mayor Edip Uğur, who resigned on October 30, Monday following President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan asking him to resign. Uğur said that he and his family started to receive threats.
Havutça said that Uğur’s wife Nurgül Uğur was taken into custody and then released. Police raided Uğur family’s home, Havutçu stated.
“I’ve heard that Mr. Mayor’s wife was detained by anti-terror teams, kept in custody for one day and the mayor was threatened through this.
Edip Uğur had spoken about the threat as follows:
“There is no corruption, no irregularities, no failures, no FETÖ (Fethullahist Terror Organization) but there are sorts of pressures and threats reaching to your family, to your house. This has gone beyond the point of endurance. Thus, it has become impossible to do politics in the AK Party”.
Government spokesperson had pointed the legal channels
Stating that Uğur’s resignation is a personal choice, Government Spokesperson Bekir Bozdağ said, “The AK Party (Justice and Development Party) threatening someone is unacceptable. If there is [any threat], the legal channels are open”.
