Republican People’s Party (CHP) MP Eren Erdem on whom an international ban has been imposed due to a trial that will start in September, has been taken into custody.
Erdem announced the detention on his Twitter account with the following message: “I’m taken into custody as of this moment. I’ve been detained by police from in front of my home”.
In the previous day, İstanbul 35th Heavy Penal Court accepted the indictment prepared on the claim that Erdem aided Fethullahist Terrorist Organization. It was decided that first hearing of the trial be held on September 19 and an international travel ban was imposed Erdem, who faces 22 years in prison.
“Enemy penal law”
CHP İstanbul MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu made the following statement on his Twitter page concerning the detention:
“[Eren Erdem] was detained as per İstanbul 35th Heavy Penal Court’s warrant and he will be taken to İstanbul. It seems that the judiciary rapidly issued a warrant after the international travel ban. What is exercised is enemy penal law”. (ŞA/TK)
