The Electoral Board Is to Blame, Say Kurds

Ali Tanriverdi, provincial head of the Democratic Peoples Party (DEHAP) called for the correction of the appeals courts decision about DEHAP. He also called for apologizing from the two million people who voted for DEHAP.

Ninety eight percent of the votes that could be canceled, are Kurdish votes, said Tanriverdi. Canceling two million votes would mean taking away the voting rights of Kurds.

After an appeals court upheld the convictions of four top officials from DEHAP for forging documents, some circles are trying to pull our party into a negative argument, said Tanriverdi.

The conviction means canceling the November 3 elections. This would give rise to the annihilation of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) with a court order, he added.

In a press statement, Tanriverdi objected to a demand by the True Path Party (DYP) to readjust the number of lawmakers, and criticized its efforts to enter parliament with 66 lawmakers. "They are responsible of the Susurluk scandal, corruption, and the dirty war in the region. And now, they are trying to take their dark system into the parliament through us, said Tanriverdi.
