Petition Urges A Humanitarian Corridor to Kobane

A petition has been launched to urge the Turkish authorities to open a humanitarian corridor to Kobane in order to deliver the aid collected by international organizations. 

The first signers of the statement written in Turkish, Kurdish and English included Noam Chomsky, Ezel Akay, Fatih Akın, Özgür Mumcu, Serra Yılmaz, Reyan Tuvi as well as several prominent journalists, artists and academicians. 

Initially launched with 230 signers, the petition now has reached around 6,000 participants. 

The petition statement read as follows:

“To the Grand National Assembly Of Turkey and its Government

We, the undersigned, are following the attacks of ISIS gangs against the people in Kobane (the Kurdish territory in the north of Syria) in Rojava with deep concern for days.

As is known, Kobane is surrounded by the heavy-armed ISIS gang members. We believe that Turkey has to open a humanitarian aid corridor in its own territory to transmit the humanitarian and military aid from the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government and other cantons in Rojava, which is the demand of the whole public, to stop the probable massacre.

Otherwise, we are all responsible of the probable massacre that might occur near us.” (BK/BM)
