On Sunday (2 March), the pro-Kurdish Democratic
Society Party (DTP) read a press release in front of Galatasaray school in
central Istanbul. In the statement, the party condemned the recent ground and
air operations.
March prevented, many detained
There were hundreds of supporters gathered and they
then wanted to march along the pedestrian precinct of Istiklal Street towards
Taksim Square.
However, the police intervened by first stopping people from
entering Galatasaray Square. Then they used tear gas, water cannons and shots
fired in the air to stop the march. Many passers-by were also affected by the
teargas.
Many protesters were taken into police custody. Some
protesters entered side streets and damaged cars and businesses. (EÖ/TK/AG)
