Attorney Durak: Police Beat the Detained Among RedHack To Create Evidence

Those taken into custody following the hacker organization RedHack’s last action, told their lawyers that they were being exposed to maltreatment and torture in detention.

Attorney Fırat Durak has stated that the seven individuals detained in Ankara Security Directorate at the moment were being forced to sit on the cold beton floor with their heads bent and arms kept forward, were not being allowed to eat or satisfy their basic needs.

“As they are not in possession of any evidence, they are trying to create some. They are trying to obtain information by beating them”, said the attorney and noted that he was not allowed to see his client Taylan Kulaçoğlu. Upon requesting information from the Ankara Security Directorate about the ban on visiting his client, he was told that the “Prosecutor’s office had given a very clear order for that matter”.

The names of those taken into custody are: Taylan Kulaçoğlu, Ekin Baykal, Abidin Çelik, Alaattin Karagenç, Uğur Cihan Okutulmuş, Taşkın Yasak and an individual with yet unknown identity.

Attorney Durak has also stated that six of the seven detainees had already been tried in the RedHack trial in 2013 and were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

“We don’t know what the charges are”

Attorney Durak in his statement to bianet today (September 28) has told that those acquitted on the grounds that there was no evidence relating to RedHack, were yet again taken into custody following the last action of the organization.

Stating that also the investigations launched following the trial had all ended with a verdict of non-prosecution except one case, Durak pointed out to their discovery that the investigation into Kuluçoğlu yet still had nothing to do with this latter ongoing investigation or with the detentions within.

Upon being asked whether they were provided any information about the charges, Durak has responded;

“We don’t know what the charges are [...], the investigation file also can’t be found on the electronic query system. Nothing is certain and clear about the investigation”. (AS/DG)
