Case Against Articles Against the Flow

"Articles Against the Flow," is a book by Fikret Baskaya. The book is composed of Baskaya's articles that have been published in Ozgur Gundem newspaper and daily Evrensel. The book's second edition has been published by the Ozgur (Free) University Library.

Writer Baskaya and the publishers of the "Articles Against the Flow," are now being sued. The book is 220 pages. An article Baskaya wrote in 1993 is the motive of the court case.

In this article, Baskaya wrote, "there is no such thing as a secular republic."

"Being secular requires respect for the freedom of faith," Baskaya wrote and added that the current republic was a "torture republic."

It is "time" for a court case

This article was published in the Gundem newspaper in 1993. It was then included in the book composed of Baskaya's other articles and published by the Oteki publishing house.  However, it must have gone unnoticed at the time because Baskaya was only sued a couple of days ago.

Baskaya has been sued many times before because of his books. The book, "Articles Against the Flow," is made up of five sections which are, "ideology," "economy," "politics," "unions," and "assorted."

Fikret Baskaya and publishers Ozden Bayram and Ismet Erdogan are being sued for some of the phrases in the book, on grounds of article 159/1 of the Turkish Penal Code.

Baskaya, Bayram and Erdogan are accused of "insulting the state, state institutions and the military forces." They face up to three years in prison if found guilty.

Baskaya is preparing to announce this court case with a statement, which will carry the topic, "Don't say you haven't heard."

Baskaya also said that an interrogation had been launched for the eighth edition of his book, "Failure of Paradigm." (NK/BB/EA/NM)
