Civilian Killings Increase by 7,682% in Turkey

Civilian killings have increased by 7,682% compared with the last year in 2015 in Turkey.

According to stats of the Action on Armed Violence (AOAV), 33,307 civilians killed in the explosions all over the world in 2015, which means 30 civilians have lost their lives per day.

Civilian killings and injuries increased by 54% compared with 2011.

The civilian killings occurring only in 2015 increased at the rate of 7,682% in Turkey; 1,204% in Yemen; 142% in Egypt; 39% in Libya; 22% in Nigeria.

Despite the climb in civilian killing rate, 20% fall marked in bomb attacks compared with 2014. The researchers stated that the reason of this is that the attacks aimed at civilian areas.

Suicide attacks increased by 67%

There is a sharp increase in the number of those who lost their lives in the suicide attacks. 9,205 people lost their lives in the suicide attacks in 2015. This points an increase of 67% compared with 2014, and 78% compared with 2011.

The suicide attacks took place in 21 countries, which are Nigeria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, Syria, Yemen, Chad, Cameroon, Pakistan, Lebanon, Kuwait, France, Saudi Arabia, Somali, Libya, Egypt, China, India, Bangladesh, Mali, and Tunisia.

9,200 civilians killed by air-launched explosive weapons. Those killed by air-launched explosive weapons consists 28% of all civilian killings.

According to the research of the AOAV,

* 43,786 people killed in 2,170 explosive attacks in 2015.

* 76% of the 43,786 were civilians (33,307).

* Civilian killings and injuries increased by 54% compared with 2011; increased by 2% compared with 2014 (32,662 civilians had lost their lives in 2014).

* While the second deadliest attack in 2015 is the one on Ankara Peace Rally killing 105 and wounding hundreds, the aerial attack on a marketplace in Douma in Syria is ranked first. (ÇT/TK)
