Demonstration Ban for Nuclear Plant Protesters in Sinop

The “We Don’t Want Nuclear Power Plant in Sinop” demonstration to be held by Sinop Anti-Nuclear Platform (NKP) and Yaşam ve Dayanışma Yolcuları this weekend in Sinop against the nuclear power plant project has been banned.

Sinop NKP has shared its statement about the ban on Twitter under the hashtag #SinopaSesVer (Give voice to Sinop): “The meeting we planned as Sinop NKP to be held on April 22, 2018 for 32nd anniversary of Chernobyl Disaster and 7th anniversary of Fukushima has been banned by Ministry of Interior’s order.

“Our panel called ‘Nuclear Power Plants Reality from Chernobyl to Fukushima’ which we were planning to organized on April 21, 2018 Saturday has been banned as well.

“We as Sinop NKP will hold a press conference on April 22, 2018 at 1 p.m. We announce to whole Anti-Nuclear public that we will submit an application for another demonstration in future”.

HDP's Çepni: This is result of war government waged on environment

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Deputy Co-Chair in Charge of Ecology Murat Çepni has issued a written statement following the ban. In its statement, Çepni said, “AKP (Justice and Development Party) – [Presidential] Palace government starts the election with bans”.

“The government that detains and arrests people who distribute May 1 leaflets has now banned the ‘We Don’t Want Nuclear Power Plant in Sinop’ demonstration to be held by Sinop Anti-Nuclear Platform in Sinop. This ban is a result of the war that the government waged on the environment and people.

“No government can stand with such prohibitive policies”.
