EU Ministers Convene, Cutting Financial Aid to Turkey to be Discussed

Finance ministers of the European Union (EU) member countries will convene today (November 17) to discuss budget of 2018 to be spared for the countries, and to get prepared for the mediation meetings to be held with the European Parliament.

According to Deutsche Welle citing diplomats, the EU ministers plan to propose a cut of 67 million Euros to Turkey.

It came to agenda in October

In a summit in October, EU state and government leaders demanded that financial aids be reduced due to the strained relations.

The amount spared to Turkey prior to joining the EU as a financial aid was 4.5 billion Euros from 2014 to 2020.

Çavuşoğlu: I don’t give people’s money to the Council of Europe

Turkey announced that it plans to make cuts in payment it renders to the European Council to protest the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe granting award to legist Murat Arslan, who has been imprisoned in Turkey.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in his statement yesterday in Ankara said, “I don’t give people’s money to a person who uses ByLock”. (PT/TK)
