HDP MP Sancar: How Can a Book Qualify as a Terror Organization?

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Mardin MP Mithat Sancar has submitted a parliamentary inquiry about the three books banned by Criminal Judgeship of Peace and other banned books in Turkey.

Sancar pointed to the Article No. 28 of the Constitution that states: "The press is free, it cannot be censored".

The banned books

Kahta Criminal Judgeship of Peace ordered banning of the following three books on October 2, 2017 upon prosecutor office's request:

* Birakujî, Faysal Dağlı, Belge Publications, 1994
* Kürt Tarihi, Aytekin Gezici, Tutku Publications, 2013
* Rojava: Kürtlerin Zamanı, Fehim Taştekin, İletişim Publications, 2016

"Does the ban comply with the Constitution?"

Sancar posed the following questions to the Prime Minister:

How can a book qualify as a terror organization?

How many books are there currently whose distribution is banned in Turkey? Which books are these?

Does banning the sales and distribution of the books comply with the Constitution and bylaws of international human rights?

What sort of precautions do you plan to prevent such bans? (ÇT/TK)
