Iraqi PM Abadi: Never Allowed Turkish Soldiers on Iraqi Lands

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al Abadi noted; “I am not very optimistic about Turks’ approach to Iraq and the escalating tension”.

According to Almasalah’s report, Abadi, meeting foreign missioners and representatives in Baghdad, made some remarks on Turkey, and said “We want to warn Turkey not to go too far in violating Iraq’s sovereignty”.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in his statement yesterday (October 17) had said “We won’t be responsible for the outcomes of an operation in which Turkey doesn’t participate. We will both participate in the operation and negotiations. It is not possible that we will be outside of it because a history lies there for us”.

Al Abadi in Baghdad stated; “Turkey has adopted Saddam Hussain’s policy in order to carry its inner issues outside. We did not officially allow Turkish soldiers to stay in Iraqi lands.  

“We demanded that they respect the sovereignty of Iraq and immediately draw back its soldiers from the south of Iraq. Turkey staying on these lands would damage the historic relations between these two countries.

“Erdoğan says that the Kurds in Iraq were exposed to assimilation. Well then, have you yourself granted the Kurds in Turkey their martial and political rights”.

Committee from Ministry for Foreign Affairs to Baghdad

Prime Minister and Government Spokesperson Numan Kurtulmuş had stated yesterday  that a committee from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had visited Baghdad and noted; “The air space has been opened and clearance acquired. Our Undersecretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be in Baghdad. They will negotiate both on Mosul and other issues”. (AS/DG)
