Kurdish Journalist Dilsa Demirbağ-Sten Appointed to Board of Nobel Center Foundation

Dilsa Demirbağ-Sten, a well-known journalist based in Sweden, has been appointed as a member to the Board of Nobel Center Foundation in Sweden. The appointment has been shared with the public in a press release published on Foundation's official website.
Demirbağ-Sten has spoken to bianet about her new position.
'I am an immigrant in a democratic country'
Stating that Sweden gives people the opportunity of upward mobility, Demirbağ-Sten has made the following remarks:
"It is very delightful to see that an immigrant Kurdish woman could find the opportunities to improve herself and attain good positions.
"Sweden is a country which offers people the opportunity to improve themselves and make progress.
"We had to emigrate [from Turkey] and if I were not an immigrant in a democratic country, I would have no chance of progress.
"I hope to see Kurdish women in the board and in high positions."

About Dilsa Demirbağ-StenShe was born in Turkey's eastern province of Elazığ in 1969. Her family emigrated to Sweden when she was six years old. She became a member of the Swedish Press Council in 2019 and she is also a member of the reference group for the Swedish government agency delegation against segregation. In 2018, she was awarded the St:Erik medal for her contributions to Stockholm county. Being a member of the expert council to Swedish Crown Foundation, she is also a member of the reference group for the Swedish government agency Kulturrådet. She was also formerly a member of the Swedish Globalization Council and a former member of the AllBright Foundation, Riksteatern, the Swedish Institute, Linnéuniversitetet, the Swedish Red Cross, the Swedish Humanist Association and the think tank FORES. With a background in journalism, she also contributed to a series of Sweden-based newspapers such as Expressen, Östgöta Correspondenten, Göteborgs-Posten, Dagens Nyheter, Fokus and Axess. She also worked at Amnesty International and as a special adviser to Sweden's former Minister of Integration Leif Blomberg. |
