Negligence in Demirören Shopping Mall Leads to Death of 1 Child

A child who was heavily injured life by falling on the floor base from moving stairway opening in Demirören Shopping Mall, which is located in Beyoğlu, İstanbul and belongs to Demirören Holding, has lost his life.

The incident wasn’t covered by the agencies

The incident wasn’t reported by Demirören News Agency (DHA), which belongs to Demnirören Holding, as well as state-run Anadolu Agency (AA) and İhlas News Agency (İHA).

The eyewitnesses made the incident heard on social platforms such as Twitter and asked the DHA by mentioning why they didn’t cover it. The social media users voiced their suspicion that the DHA managers prevented the incident from being reported.

Speaking to bianet, an eyewitness told that the child aged around 3-4 got away from his family and the incident occurred when he started to play near the moving stairway.

Taken to hospital in serious condition, the child lost his life in the hospital.

As per the Law on Occupational Health and Safety, the businesses with more than 50 employees have to have an occupational physician but it was seen in the video footage that there was no physician at the time of the incident.

Security measures have been taken after the incident

An examination was carried out by prosecutor’s office and shopping mall executives at the scene.

It was learned that the opening was closed with a glass barrier and the security was placed back on the base floor.

The investigation is being carried out confidentially

It was reported that the investigation is being carried out by police officers confidentially and that no information will be shared without the permission of the prosecutor in charge. (HA/TK)
