People’s Law Office Attorneys Detained

Police has raided the offices of People's Law Office in İstanbul and Ankara as well as the houses of its attorneys around midnight yesterday (September 11). 10 attorneys from the law office were taken into custody in the raid.

People's Law Office issued a statement on the issue on its Twitter account and said:

"They want to leave Semih and Nuriye without legal representation. They raided the offices of People's Law Office in İstanbul and Ankara. You see in Semih and Nuriye's situation, how you will end up. That is why you are taking their attorneys in custody two days before their hearing".

The names of the attorneys who were taken into custody are: Atty. Barkın Timtik, Atty. Ebru Timtik, Atty. Şükriye Erden, Atty. Aytaç Ünsal, Atty. Engin Gökoğlu, Atty. Ezgi Çakır, Atty. Süleyman Gökten, Atty. Didem Baydar Ünsal, Atty. Ahmet Mandacı and Atty.Yağmur Ereren.

The next hearing of academics Nuriye Gülmen and Semih Özakça, who were discharged from their positions through a Statutory Decree and went on a hunger strike to be reinstated to their jobs, will be held on September 14 in Ankara.

Gülmen and Özakça have been on a hunger strike for 188 days as of today (September and were arrested on May 23. (NV/DG)
