Protest on Twitter, in Silivri: #FreeTurkeyJournalists

Press trade bodies are on Twitter on December 9, Friday to draw attention to 146 journalists that will enter 2017 in prison. A protest is being organized in front of Silivri Prison for December 10 Human Rights Day.

Messages will be shared on Twitter with the hashtags #GazetecilikSuçDeğildir (Journalism is not a crime) and #FreeTurkeyJournalists at 11 a.m. today (December 9).

International Press Institute, PEN International’s representatives from Europe, Journalists’ Association of Turkey, Journalists’ Union of Turkey, DİSK Press Labor Union, Progressive Journalists’ Union, Haber-Sen, PEN Turkey, Writers’ Union of Turkey and Reporters Without Border Turkey Representation Office will attend the protest to be staged in front of Silivri Prison.

There are the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), European Association of Journalists (EAJ), South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO), IFEX, Article 19 and Index on Censorship among the press trade bodies that demand freedom of the press and expression for a democratic country and 146 journalists be tried without arrest.
