Eylem Ataş’s Body Handed Over to Her Family After 101 Days

The body of Eylem Ataş who had lost her life while fighting against ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) in Manbij/Rojava has been handed over to her family in Turkey 101 days after her death. After being delivered to Mardin State Hospital yesterday (October 6), the body was brought to Adana this morning.

Following the ceremony in Adana Şakirpaşa Cemevi, she will be put to rest in Küçükoba Cemetery.

She will reportedly be buried beside Bedrettin Akdeniz (Suphi Şoreş) who also had lost his life while fighting against ISIS in Serêkaniyê.

What had happened?

While fighting together with the United Freedom Forces (BÖG) against ISIS, 23-year-old Eylem Ataş had lost her life on June 27.

Ataş’s family had submitted a petition to Suruç sub-Governorate requesting authorization permission to pass the border, identify Ataş’s body and take it. There was no response to the petition for a week, later was stated that the petition was lost.  

The petition submitted subsequently was denied due to “ill-adapted content”. Ataş’s family have launched a petition on change.org to make their voice heard.

Also the body of Aziz Güler, who had lost his life while fighting against ISIS in Rojava, was retained on the border for two months. (ÇT/DG)
