Journalists Outside Group Reacts to Reports Targeting Dissidents

The Journalists Outside have reacted to the reports covered by the pro-government media.

Türkiye, Akşam, Star, Sabah...

In the wake of human rights activists being detained in Büyükada, Türkiye Newspaper columnist Batuhan Yaşar wrote in his column about the detentions that "The name of their WhatsApp group is 'We will be free together on July 24...' The intelligence units started to monitor this meeting when it was in the preparation phase. They watched every step and prevented a new act of treason through the operation they carried out on July 24".

The same article was published on many pro-government news websites and newspapers. Most recently, Sabah daily published the names involved in the WhatsApp group on its website yesterday (August 14). The names of the people in the group and their workplaces were full of mistakes. WhatsApp conversations were introduced like they were elements of a crime in the report.

"None of the reports are true"

The statement read:

"The pro-government Türkiye, Güneş, Sabah, Akşam and Star newspapers don't write the truth. They are casting aspersion on us journalists with doctored news. Besides the typos, even the information related to who works where and even the images used in the report are wrong. We will not fix those because there is nothing to fix in those writings. None of them are true. We will file a criminal complaint against these people and newspapers". (EA/TK)
