Police Stop Protester Heading to Israel Embassy With Tractor by Shooting

The driver of a tractor, who was driving near the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) in the capital city of Ankara and did not obey the stop warning of police officers, was stopped by the police by being shot in his foot early in the morning today (October 16). 

The driver of the tractor, which had no license plate, was heading towards the district of Çankaya by running over other vehicles on his way.

The Governorship of Ankara released a statement regarding the incident and explained the reason why the driver did not obey the warning of the police. 

In the statement, it was indicated, "It has been understood that the perpetrator of the incident A.S. has been engaged in farming in the district of Beypazarı and receiving psychological treatment since 2007."

The governorship also stated that "according to initial findings, six vehicles suffered material damage in the incident and no materials constituting a crime were found in the searches conducted on the driver and in the tractor."

"He was going to protest Israel"

As reported by Hürriyet daily newspaper, the police officers in the scene of incident said that "A.S. was planning to park his tractor in front of the Embassy of Israel to stage a protest against the country."

The marine forces of Israel intervened in a protest, which was held at sea yesterday with the demand that Gaza blockade be lifted. 32 Palestinians, one of whom was a journalist, were injured in the intervention.

The National Movement to Break Gaza Blockade has been staging the protests against the sea blockade since May 29, 2018. The protest that was held yesterday was the 12th protest since then. (HK/SD)
