Turkey's Supreme Election Council finds 24 political parties eligible to enter elections

In a decision published in the Official Gazette on January 15, 2022, the Supreme Election Council (YSK) of Turkey has announced that 24 political parties have been found eligible to enter the elections.

The YSK decision has shown that as per the Law no. 298 on "Basic Provisions on Elections and Electoral Registers" and the Law no. 2820 on Political Parties, there is no obstacle to the 24 parties to enter the elections as they established an organization in at least half of the 81 provinces at least 6 months prior to January 1 and held their grand congresses.

This list is not final. The established political parties may still qualify to enter elections when they fulfill the requirements set in the Law no. 298.

The 24 political parties which have recently been found eligible to enter the elections have been listed as follows:

Justice and Development Party (AKP), Motherland Party (ANAP), Independent Turkey Party (BTP), Great Union Party (BBP), Republican People's Party (CHP), Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA), Democrat Party (DP), Democratic Left Party (DSP), Labor Party (EMEP), Future Party, Young Party, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Free Cause Party, İYİ Party, Nation Party, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Conservative Ascension Party, Felicity Party (SP), Left Party, Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP), Communist Movement of Turkey, Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), Patriotic Party and New Welfare Party.

The YSK has also set the provisions and principles regulating the establishment of district and provincial election councils and the District Election Councils Abroad. As per this decision issued in the Official Gazette in reference to the Law no. 298, new election councils shall be formed in the last week of January and these councils will serve for two years.
