Vehicle inspection workers win reinstatement lawsuit

Four vehicle inspection station workers who were dismissed because of being unionized at the Nakliyat-İş union have won the lawsuit they filed for reinstatement.

The court ruled that the dismissals were made for unfair and union reasons and that the workers should be reinstated.

The workers will also be paid union compensation of 12 months of gross wages regardless of whether they restart working or not, according to the ruling. The company has also been ordered to pay the workers their four-month salary for the period they didn't work.

Thus, Reysaş has been sentenced to pay union compensation for a total of 16 months of salary for each worker.

What happened?

The Reysaş company dismissed 42 unionized employees in its branches in Eskişehir, Zonguldak, Karabük, Bartın, Kastamonu, Tosya, Sivrihisar, Ereğli. Workers have been protesting their dismissals in front of each branch for 496 days.

TÜVTÜRK previously dismissed workers in Bolu and Muğla stations as well. Workers in Muğla have won the legal struggle they started in 2019.

Also the Zonguldak Chief Public Prosecutor's Office last week filed a case against Reysaş executives for preventing union activities after workers' complaint. It requested a prison sentence for Reysaş Board Chair Durmuş Döven, the Reysaş general manager and the manager of the Reysaş Zonguldak Vehicle Inspection Station. (HA/VK)
