Administrative court rejects appeal against transfer of Khashoggi case to Saudi Arabia

The Ankara 14th Administrative Court has rejected an appeal against the transfer of the case concerning the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi to Saudi Arabia without examining it.

Hatice Cengiz, the fiancee of the late journalist, had filed an appeal, demanding the overturn of the opinion of the Ministry of Justice in favor of the transfer.

In order for an administrative action to be the subject of an administrative case, the enforcement of that action should be mandatory, the court stated.

Another appeal filed with the İstanbul 12th Heavy Penal Court about the transfer of the case has not yet been decided on.

Khashoggi was murdered on October 2, 2018, in the Saudi Arabia's consulate in İstanbul, where he had gone for paperwork for his impending marriage.

After no significant progress in the case including 26 defendants, the İstanbul 11th Heavy Penal Court on April 7 approved the transfer of the case to Saudi Arabia. 

The lawyer of Cengiz appealed against the decision, alleging that it was against the laws and procedures. (HA/VK)
