Democratic Left, Communist and Felicity Parties Announce Support for İmamoğlu

The Felicity Party (SP), the Democratic Left Party (DSP) and the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) have made statements on the Supreme Election Council (YSK) verdict for a repeat election in İstanbul.

The three candidates received a total of 140 thousand votes, while the difference between Ekrem İmamoğlu and Binali Yıldırım was less than 14 thousand in the canceled election.

TKP: We withdraw our candidate

The TKP Central Committee released a written statement, saying that the right choice is to "leave the AKP (the ruling Justice and Development Party) and the YSK alone at the ballot box."

The party declared that it will boycott the repeat election on June 23. TKP candidate Zehra Karaoğlu received 10,403 votes in the canceled elections.

SP candidate: I am ready

Speaking to the TV5, SP İstanbul candidate Necdet Gökçınar said that he would withdraw in favor of İmamoğlu: "I am ready. I am waiting for my party's decision."

Gökçınar received 103,300 votes on March 31.

Both the SP and the AKP are the offshoots of the Prosperity Party (RP).

DSP candidate: We will do what is necessary

DSP İstanbul candidate Muammer Aydın tweeted, "DSP won't be silent against the irregularities by means of the YSK and will do its part and what is necessary. Our people must be sure of that."

Aydın received 30,817 votes in the election.

In the March 31 elections, İmamoğlu topped Yıldırım by 13,739 votes. (EKN/VK)
