US eases travel warnings for 90 countries, including Turkey

The US Department of State has changed the travel warnings for 114 countries amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

In an announcement made yesterday (June 8), it was indicated that the travel warnings for 58 countries, including Turkey, have been upgraded from "Level 4 Do Not Travel" to "Level 3 Reconsider Travel."

The US Travel Advisory System: Level 1 – Exercise Normal Precautions; Level 2 – Exercise Increased Caution: Be aware of heightened risks to safety and security; Level 3 – Reconsider Travel: Avoid travel due to serious risks to safety and security; Level 4 – Do Not Travel: This is the highest advisory level due to greater likelihood of life-threatening risks.

As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), the other countries that have seen their travel warnings loosened by the US include Summer Olympics host Japan as well as France and Germany.

People who are thinking of visiting Japan should reconsider travel due to COVID-19, the US Department of State has said as the East Asian country prepares to hold the Olympics beginning in late July. It has pointed to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Level 3 travel warning, as it did with Germany and France and dozens of other nations.

Three countries, namely the British Virgin Islands, Samoa and Sudan, have been downgraded to Level 4 - Do Not Travel.

Ten countries have been upgraded to Level 1 Exercise Normal Precautions, the lowest level of precaution given by the State Department: Antigua & Barbuda , Eswatini , French Polynesia , Gambia, Ghana , Malawi , Malta , Senegal , Singapore , South Korea and Togo. (DŞ/SD)
