President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called on people from Turkey living in Germany to "not vote for Christian Democrats, Social Democrats or the Greens".
Answering questions from journalists, Erdoğan said with regard to the current tension between Germany and Turkey:
"Germany is currently a state which does not abide by the European Union Acquis. If you are looking for someone to account for, it is Germany.
Noting that the Social Democratic Party of Germany and the Christian Democratic Union were trying to increase their votes in the coming elections by "mauling Turkey", Erdoğan called on the voters from Turkey living in Germany to "[not support] Christian Democrats, Social Democrats or the Greens".
"These are all enemies of Turkey", Erdoğan added and said:
"Just like Germany takes a different attitude when it wants us to release its citizens, we now demand that they extradite the terrorists who are in Germany.
"I gave Ms. Merkel the files of these 4,500 terrorists. But we have not received a single positive response, we are still waiting."
Responding to Erdoğan remarks Germany's Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said,
"That is an unprecedented act of interference in the sovereignty of our country.
"Erdogan's interference in Germany's electoral campaign shows that he wants to incite people in Germany against each other" and called on the people to oppose to this attempt. (EA/DG)
