President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has sued Republican People’s Party (CHP) Deputy Chair and Spokesperson Bülent Tezcan for immaterial compensation of 50,000 TL (11,350 Euros) for calling him “fascist dictator”.
Tezcan briefly said the following in his speech he delivered on October 30, Monday to support Tekirdağ’s Süleymanpaşa Mayor Ekrem Eşkinat, who was imposed a travel ban on probation on charge of insulting Erdoğan:
“I don’t know what Mr. Mayor Ekrem said, but I am saying this at Tekirdağ square: Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is a fascist dictator. I speak the language that they understand. He is pure dictator”.
“It is not freedom of expression"
Erdoğan sued Tezcan for immaterial compensation of 50,000 TL upon this statement.
In Erdoğan’s petition, it was claimed that Tezcan directly targeting Erdoğan blackmailed and threatened him, and was said, “The statements are a part of a campaign directed against Erdoğan and it is not possible to consider it a separate incident”.
The indictment also stated that Tezcan’s words cannot be evaluated within the scope of “freedom of expression”. (EKN/TK)
