NAVY OFFICERS PROSECUTED
Five More Lieutenants Under Arrest, for Assassination Charges
After three arrests on Tuesday, two more lieutenants were arrested yesterday evening.
On Tuesday, 21 July, naval lieutenants Sinan Efe Noyan, Faruk Akın and Alperen Erdoğan were arrested, accused of membership in an armed illegal organisation. They were taken to military prison.
They are suspected of having planned the assassination of two admirals in the naval command.
Police in Istanbul and Gölcük took part in the operations.
Two other lieutenants, who had been taken into custody as part of the same investigation, were later arrested on order of the duty High Criminal Court in Istanbul. Their identities are not yet known.
Meanwhile, the Istanbul 11th High Criminal Court has rejected the objections of the first three arrested lieutenants to their arrest. (EÖ/AG)
