Second Police Raid Against HDP Diyarbakır Building

A police operation has been launched against the people who previously announced that they have gone on a hunger strike in the Diyarbakır Provincial Building of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in solidarity with Leyla Güven, the imprisoned Hakkari MP of the HDP and Co-Chair of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK), who has also been on a hunger strike.

Another operation was also conducted against the HDP Provincial Building in Turkey's southeastern province of Diyarbakır two days ago (December 10) and 25 women were taken into custody.

Arrested HDP MP Güven has been on a hunger strike for 36 days. Güven was detained in Diyarbakır on January 22 due to her social media posts and statements about the Afrin operation. Having been arrested on January 31, Güven has been facing up to 31 years and 6 months in prison.
49 people detained
In the operation launched against the HDP Diyarbakır Building yesterday (December 12), 49 people were taken into custody.
HDP Diyarbakır Provincial executives Ramazan Kaval and Mustafa Akengin, who went to the Security Directorate to receive information regarding the detentions, were also taken into custody.
All of the detained are held in Diyarbakır Provincial Security Directorate.
Operations in Ankara and İstanbul
In operations launched against the members and offices of the HDP in Mersin, Urfa, Van and Batman, several people were detained.
This week, further operations were also conducted against the HDP members in the capital city of Ankara and İstanbul.
Of the ones who were detained in Ankara on December 10, HDP Ankara executive Abuzer Kısa and Eşref Özviran have been released.
In house raids conducted in the districts of Menemen, Bayraklı, Karabağlar, Buca and Konak in İzmir yesterday (December 12), 11 people, including HDP and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) members, were detained. (AS/SD)
